When Should I Appoint a Healthcare Power of Attorney?

Video Transcription:

If you’re 18 years or older, you should already have a healthcare surrogate or a healthcare proxy signed and in place. Everybody on their 18th birthday and beyond should have a current healthcare surrogate because you never know what’s going to happen to you physically. If you’re in a car accident, you should have signed somebody that you want to advocate for you with the hospital and the doctors. Especially I have the clients bring their kids in on their 18th birthday to sign because as they go off to college, they don’t think about car accidents and accidents in the fraternity house or on campus, and it’s important that parents have the ability to manage their healthcare if the child becomes incapacitated.
