The Importance of a Health Care Surrogate

The CORONAVIRUS pandemic has left many of us with extra time on our hands. This is a great opportunity to review and update your estate planning and other documents. The document that needs to be getting everyone’s attention right now is the health care surrogate. Without an updated health care surrogate, your loved ones could end up left in the dark if you were unable to make medical decisions for yourself.

If you get sick with the virus and are hospitalized, you need your loved ones to have access to speak with your doctors about your prognosis and make medical decisions for you if you were unable to do so. You would need a properly signed health care surrogate or a living will that has the correct HIPPA Release language allowing your loved ones to talk to the doctor about your medical situation.

Doane & Doane is open for business and ready to help you by phone, email or teleconference if you need it.

And if you do need any of those important health care directives signed witnessed or notarized, Doane & Doane offers curbside service at our office in North Palm Beach. You don’t even need to get out of your car.
